Mobile food pantry seeks assistance
IRON MOUNTAIN — A coordinator of free food distributions in western Dickinson County is seeking administrative help.
Anda Tavonatti told the Dickinson County Board on Monday that the Feeding America West Michigan distributions done monthly at Lodal Park in Kingsford over the summer served an average of 885 people. About 75% of the recipients were from Dickinson County, she said.
Distributions this fall will take place on the second Wednesday of the month at the Tri-City Cinema 8 parking lot in Quinnesec.
The mobile food pantry, which is coordinated by Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Iron Mountain, typically requires about 25 to 30 volunteers, Tavonatti said. With the makeup of that help always in flux, the biggest current volunteer need is in the area of site coordination, she said
A schedule for 2025 must be prepared through FAWM, so Tavonatti said she’s making it known now that it’s important to get more managers on board.
Tavonatti told the board that questions about the FAWM Mobile Food Pantry or about volunteering can be directed to her at 906-239-6778.
Separate FAWM distributions at the Crossroads Alliance church facility in Norway are coordinated by Grace Methodist Church, with support from several churches and a Dickinson County Community Foundation grant. More information on FAWM can be found at https://www.feedwm.org/.

≤ Learned from Commissioner Joe Stevens that the Medical Care Access Coalition, also at 2301 Woodward Ave., Kingsford, will have an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18.
