IRON MOUNTAIN — Saturday in the Park will offer two evenings and nights of live music Friday and Saturday at Iron Mountain’s City Park.
The annual fundraiser, started around 2014, has raised between $10,000 and $20,000 a year for improvements to City Park, organizer Caroline Sullivan said.
Past projects include establishing the dog park in 2018 and upgrading playground equipment for younger children, with future plans to replace some larger pieces that has been damaged. Picnic tables also were purchased for the upper pavilion.
The event opens at 5 p.m. CT each day. Admission is $20 at the door for adults for both days; ages 12 and younger are admitted free. No carry-ins are allowed.
Musical entertainment Friday includes variety blues music from the Polar Blues Band of the Iron Mountain area from 5 to 7 p.m. and the Peltier Brothers Band of the Bark River area playing classic country and rock from 8 to 11 p.m.
Sullivan is excited to bring two new country artists to the event Saturday. Jordan Blanchard from Wisconsin was last year’s winner of the local Hodag Country Music Festival Pick-off in Rhinelander, Wis. He also performed at Hodag this year, along with other events in Wisconsin, including the Porterfield Country Festival.
Headliner Chris Kroeze of Wisconsin was the runner-up on the 2018 season of the NBC competition show “The Voice,” where he was a member of Team Blake. He will perform original and cover songs during his set from 8 to 11 p.m.
Sullivan said the two musicians know each other. “I’m hoping for a really good show,” she said.
Members of the bocce league will be on hand to explain the game of bocce to anyone interested. For adults, they plan to have a Jinga-type game and 9 Square in the Air. Some planned events, however, such as bingo and the cornhole tournament will not take place, Sullivan said.
A bounce house and an obstacle course will be available both days for children. Cost is $10 each day. The Smoke House, operated by local fire departments, will also be on site.
Curious Pig and Smoklers will both have a variety of food available but have coordinated with each other to offer different items. Flavor Blast LLC will have a booth inside the large building.
Water, pop, beer will be for sale and this year they will also offer varieties of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and Carbliss drinks.
Sullivan said they are looking for people who would like to serve on the Saturday in the Park organizing committee. Volunteers are also welcome for the event. Contact her on the Facebook page at Saturday in the Park Iron Mountain.
A disc golf tournament that is not held during the event also raises money for Saturday in the Park.
