KINGSFORD — Breitung Township Schools this week announced completion of an agreement with the city of Kingsford that will bring a full-time school resource officer to Breitung Township Schools.

The agreement includes full-time coverage in the school buildings during the school year and at major school events, Superintendent David Holmes said in a press release.

The agreement was developed by Holmes and City Manager Mike Stelmaszek with input from Kingsford Public Safety officers, Director Brian Metras, and members of the personnel committees from the city and school district.

In addition to the dedicated officer for the school, Kingsford Public Safety will continue to have additional officers receive the school resource officer training.

“We are very pleased to complete this agreement with the city of Kingsford and look forward to having the officer on campus on a regular basis. We’ve received excellent support from Kingsford Public Safety over the years and this will be an enhanced service to help keep our students safe at school,” Holmes said.

At Monday’s city council meeting, it was reported that Public Safety Officer Matt Brouillette has been hired as the full-time school officer, working at Woodland Elementary as well as the middle and high schools.

Brouillette has been with the department for seven years and has trained as a school resource officer. His salary will be paid by the school district.

Starting at $3.23/week.
