BUTTE, Montana — Contemporary and traditional home furnishings are always in style, but Rad Popovich, merchandise manager at Steele’s in Butte, said that some non-traditional woods, new colors and furniture styles are interesting.

When it comes to wood, people are looking for something unique and making more exotic choices, like multi-colored Indian sheesham, for bedroom sets and end tables.

“No two pieces are alike,” Popovich said.

With color, Popovich said that two tones are currently dominating the showroom and living rooms around southwest Montana.

“What’s trending now is shades of gray and chocolate in everything,” he said.

Shoppers are also shifting away from traditional sofa and love seat arrangements in favor of L-shaped sectionals with a chaise on one end, Popovich said.

“Gray is the new beige for base colors,” said Janice Hayes, who co-owns Real Deals Home Decor with her daughter, Carrie Sampson.

Located across from Ace Hardware on Harrison Avenue, the shop is open Thursday through Saturday and carries a wide variety of accent pieces and home decor items. Hayes said that eclectic is in and the hot colors for spring decor include turquoise and coral. In addition to trends, Hayes said that both the Western and the rustic look are always in style in Montana.

“Those never change,” she said.

Kally’s Korner in Uptown Butte has been bringing style to Butte for decades. According to Debbie McGloin, who has owned the shop for many years, she mostly caters to women over 30 looking for both casual and business attire. McGloin said she’s seeing a mix of bright colors and muted tones. “Shades of orange are huge right now,” she said. McGloin added that florals, prints, and stripes are also big, along with gray skinny jeans and leggings, worn with longer tops.

“Black and white never goes out of style,” she added.

Mirror Mirror Family Boutique on Amherst, caters to fashion conscious families–offering trending styles for infants, to teens, to adult fashionistas of both sexes.

Kayla Lambrecht opened the boutique in December of 2013 with the goal of bringing more affordable fashion to Butte. Lambrecht said that spring trends include whites, bright colors, fringe, lace and florals.

Accessories make the outfit, and Lambrecht’s carrying the popular long, druzy necklaces with unique stones and colors, along with infinity scarves in trending fabrics, like plaid and gingham checks.

Lambrecht said that looser boyfriend jeans and ripped denim are back in style in Butte.
