Elmer Alexanderson of Norway, Michigan, celebrated his 102-year birthday Jan. 23 at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

Alexanderson served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1943 to 1945 as an aviation engineer. OGJVAMC staff surprised him with cake and coffee and even tried their best to sign happy birthday.

Medical center Director John P. Shealey presented Elmer with an OGJVAMC coin and listened to stories of Elmer’s days in the service. The Norway native retired as an automobile salesman and has since been trying to perfect his cooking skills.

Starting at $4.62/week.
