MARQUETTE, MI. - Wayne R. "Cookie" Cook, age 87, of Marquette, entered eternal life Monday afternoon, January 27, 2014 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, in the comforting care of UP Home Health and Hospice.
Wayne was born April 21, 1926, in Michigamme, to Walter and Mildred (Davy) Cook, and was raised in Marquette. He graduated from the Marquette Senior High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Army, serving with the Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946. In 1955, he married Vivian Searles and together the couple began raising their three children.
Wayne used the G.I. Bill to attend sign school in Chicago as well as learning to fly small aircrafts. He was self employed as a painter, painting many homes in and around Marquette, as well as many local signs.
Wayne is survived by his children, Janet, Scott and Barbara; his brothers, Walter and Tom Cook; seven grandchildren; and a very special person in his life, Rose Richardson.
A visiting hour will be held in the Chapel at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans on Friday, January 31 from 2:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm. Ardy Johnson will officiate and veteran's honors will be accorded by members of Jopling Post 44 of the American Legion.
Visitation will continue the following day, Saturday, February 1, at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
