October 24, 2013
The Mining Journal

Florence Helen Simons Tuominen recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Family and friends gathered at the Skyroom of the Landmark Inn for the celebration. She is a long time resident of Marquette, now residing at Mill Creek Assisted Living Facility. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Luke's Hospital for Dr. Moses Cooperstock and Dr. George M. Nidiffer, longtime pediatricians in Marquette. She is a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served on the alter guild for many years. Her nickname from family members is "Grandma Cookie" for the delicious cookies she baked for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
