MARQUETTE - In that decade that it has filled Mattson Lower Harbor Park with music and music lovers, the Marquette Area Blues Fest has become a Labor Day weekend tradition.

"The Marquette Blues Fest is such a wonderful event our community has," said Sue Minckler, The festival's volunteer coordinator. "I've been helping out with this for seven years and it is nothing but fun.

"The band's that come love the friendly atmosphere, kids can run around, couples dance, families bond and the music is so unique. There is so much talent. It's just a great experience for everyone involved."

In a new twist to the festival, Friday night's performances were free of charge - billed as a thank you to the community by event organizers.

"Everyone who helps out with this event absolutely loves it," Minckler said. "The people are so friendly, we listen to great music, and luckily the weather is so beautiful you can't help but want to come back year after year,"

The Blues Fest continues today and Sunday with a full slate of performers beginning 1 p.m., with gates opening at noon each day. Tickets are available at the main gate.
