Library to screen 'Hitchcock'

MARQUETTE - Summer Cinema will begin the summer film season with a screening of "Hitchcock" at 5:30 p.m. June 10 in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.

This Oscar-nominated biographical drama is a love story between influential filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock, and is based on the book "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho" by Stephen Rebello, is rated PG-13 and runs for 98 minutes.

The public is may bring their own takeout supper and enjoy a recently released feature film in a dinner theater setting. Admission is free due. For more information visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.

NCLL offers woodturning talk

MARQUETTE - The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present "Woodturning: What's In That Block of Wood?" from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. June 11, in the lower level of Peter White Public Library. Norm Hefke and Mark Himes of Superiorland Woodturners will discuss the centuries-old craft and explain how wood is chosen, designed and "turned" into a piece for practical use or art. Artisans will also demonstrate techniques used in the process and show some finished pieces.

This event is free for NCLL members and $5 for others. Registration deadline is June 3; call 227-2979.

Bass tourney slated

MICHIGAMME - The Rock Bass Tournament and DNR Free Fishing Weekend will be held Saturday, June 8. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Michigamme Park Pavilion and Brown Road Access Site.

Pre-registration will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 7 at the Van Riper State Park Camp Host Site. Registration costs $5 per person and includes a hotdog at noon. The event is free for children 12 and younger.

The tournament conclusion, judging and prizes will take place at 1 p.m. at the Michigamme Park Pavilion. In case of rain, the event will be moved to June 9.

Probus Superiorland to meet

MARQUETTE - Probus Superiorland will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bonanza Restaurant in Marquette. April Lindala, director of Northern Michigan University's Center for Native American Studies, will present "A Year with Indigenous Foods." Those attending should use the west side door. Retirees are welcome.
