Free flights for area youths

MARQUETTE - Lake Superior Chapter 850 of the Experimental Aircraft Association will offer free airplane flights for youths ages 8 through 17 beginning with registration from 10 to 11:30 a.m. June 8 at the Sawyer Airport General Aviation Terminal, located about a mile south of the passenger terminal. Parents or legal guardians must complete a permission form before the flight; relatives are not legal guardians. Students who flew in the program during prior years may now take additional flights.

Pilots at the event will explain about their airplanes allowing young people to learn how airplanes work.

Following the flight, each young person, will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle. Their name will then be entered into the "World's Largest Logbook," which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, Wis. The Logbook is also accessible at www.youngeagles.org.

In addition to the Certificate the new Young Eagle will be given a Logbook with an access code for a complete free online Flight Training course offered by Sporty's.Flights last about 30 minutes and are offered through the Young Eagles program. All pilots are certified by the Federal Aviation Administration and donate the use of their planes. Flights may be canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions.
