IRON RIVER - Munising powered its way to the girls win, but needed every stroke it could save for the boys victory and a sweep of the Skyline/Central Upper Peninsula Conference Championship high school golf meet on Monday.
Playing at George Young Golf Course near Iron River, the Mustang girls could not only boast sophomore medalist Carla Nottmeier's 93, but senior Molly Matson' 102, which put her in a three-way tie for second place.
Munising shot 438 to 455 for runner-up Forest Park, while Bark River-Harris was third with 471.
Seven boys and four girls squads posted team scores at the meet.
The Mustang boys had to survive Carney-Nadeau eighth-grader Hunter Eichhorn taking medalist honors by eight strokes to eke out a one-stroke victory over the Wolves, 362-363.
BR-H was third with 372, North Central fourth with 381 and Forest Park fifth with 386.

MHS' best boys golfer was sophomore Colin Immel with 87, good for a tie for third overall. But the Mustangs' depth proved decisive as senior teammate Michael Mannisto added 88, sophomore Izaak Mahoski 92 and senior Gage Webster 95. And if they'd have given back one more stroke and needed a tiebreaker, fifth golfer, sophomore Tyler Tweedale, shot 96 to beat C-N's No. 5 shooter by a full 20 strokes.
"This is the first time our boys and girls won the conference meet together since I've been coaching at Munising," longtime Mustangs coach Bette Immel said. "Our girls had a great 1-2 punch. We have four seniors, so is a great way for them to go out.
"The boys, what a super team effort."
Three Mustang boys and three more girls were among the 21 total golfers named all-conference following the meet - Colin Immel, Mannisto and Mahoski for the Munising boys; Nottmeier, Matson and Katie Immel, who shot 121, for the girls.
Negaunee nearly sweeps
At Wawonowin Country Club in the annual WIN Meet, the fifth-golfer tiebreaker didn't fall Negaunee's way in the girls meet as Westwood came out victorious after each team posted 265. Ishpeming didn't have enough golfers to post a team score.
The Miners' boys recorded a 12-stroke victory to take that meet, 184 to 196 for Westwood and 202 for Ishpeming.
Neither winning team had the medalist as the Hematites' Matt Kilberg beat out teammate Cody Kugler on the count-back tiebreaker when both shot 42 in the boys meet. Negaunee's David Renaldi was a close third with 43.
For the girls, the Miners' Liesl Flannery shot 59 for a two-stroke victory over the Patriots' Olivia Derocha.
All three teams will be back at Wawonowin at 9 a.m. Thursday for the Mid-Peninsula Conference meet.
Marquette rolls in IM
At Pine Grove Golf Club in Iron Mountain, Marquette claimed both team titles and both medalists at an all-Great Northern Conference quadrangular.
Jordan Frazier shot 37 to lead the Redmen to a 167 total, five strokes ahead of the runner-up Mountaineers. MSHS teammate Brock Smith was second in the medalist race with 39.
Avery Rochester shot 40 to score an eight-stroke victory over IM's Katelynn Johnson for girls medalist honors as the Redettes shot 197 to 220 for the hosts as runners-up. MSHS's Sydney Higgins was a close third with 49.
