Politics rules

May 8, 2013
The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

The Michigan Legislature has chosen to ignore the voice of over a quarter of a million voters and go ahead with a wolf hunt, instead of letting this issue be decided by democratic process and have this put on the 2014 ballot.

I did believe that the United States was a democracy and that the voice of the people could not be silenced and ignored in any state. If it can happen in Michigan, then where next?

There is no scientific evidence to prove that the wolf population in Michigan has recovered enough for a wolf hunt. This issue is being decided by politics rather than science.

Here in California we are currently working on defining wolf policy. I want the voice of California citizens to be heard on this subject. I want the voice of Michigan citizens to be heard too.

Please don't sell out wolves or the public.
