NEGAUNEE - Negaunee scored in all but one inning of a high school softball doubleheader played against Houghton at LaCombe Field in Negaunee on Tuesday.
The Miners (10-3) blanked the Gremlins in the opener 10-0 in six innings and won the nightcap 15-5 in five innings.
"I was pleased with our intensity from the first inning to the last pitch," said NHS coach John Anderson, who had been concerned with his team's slow start in several recent games.
Sisters Adena and Rosalie Anderson made sure the Miners wouldn't need too many runs, with Adena pitching a one-hit shutout in the opener and Rosalie going 3 innings in the nightcap and giving up two runs on just one hit.
Each walked two while they combined to strike out 14.

The sisters joined teammate Ashley Anderson - not related - in getting two hits in each game. For the day, Rosalie Anderson accumulated four RBIs and scored four times while hitting a double and an inside-the-park home run.
Ashley Anderson totaled three RBIs, three runs, a double and a triple, while Adena Anderson had two RBIs, a run and a double.
"I was impressed with Adena again," John Anderson said after a strong performance at the plate against Westwood on Monday. "She was playing first base (in Game 2), and on the final play of the game, she ran over and covered third (base) when she saw no one was there and took a throw to make the final out. That's the kind of hustle I'm looking for."
In addition to the Andersons in the opener, Negaunee's Amanda Washnock had two hits, two RBIs and two runs. In the nightcap, Taylor Ring had two hits, three runs and an RBI, and Nicole Richer had two hits, an RBI and a run.
Anna Gaffney scratched out a first-inning single for Houghton in Game 1, while Jill Keskimaki cracked a fourth-inning double to the fence and Andrea Revoyr hit a single in Game 2.
The Miners continue their odyssey of four doubleheaders in four days at Marquette today and home against Gladstone on Thursday. Starting times are 4 p.m. each day.
In another doubleheader played Tuesday, Ishpeming swept Westwood, 16-2 in five innings and 17-7 in six innings, in games played at the Patriots' field in National Mine. No other details were available from that doubleheader.
Manistique shuts out
At Manistique, a pair of freshman pitchers did the job for the Emeralds, helping them sweep the Modeltowners, 11-0 and 10-0.
Breanna Richey fired a no-hitter, struck out four and walked one in the opener. Ashley Menominee followed with a one-hitter, five strikeouts and no walks in the second game. Both games lasted five innings.
"Breanna pitched with a lot of confidence and Ashley pitched very well," Emeralds' manager Jessica Nord. "Gwinn put the ball in play, but they hit directly at our players. They're a young team this year.
The Emeralds finished the scoring in Game 1 by scoring seven times in the fourth. In the nightcap, they got five runs in the second for a 6-0 advantage.
"We pretty much had control of the (second) game after that," said Nord. "In all fairness to Gwinn, they had only one game (a 12-0 loss at Norway on Thursday) before today. They haven't been on the field very much."
Richey had two hits, including an RBI triple, in the opener. She finished with two RBIs and Madison Russell drove in a run.
The Emeralds (3-4) are entered in Saturday's Escanaba Jayvee Invitational before heading to Stephenson for a doubleheader on Monday.
