To the Journal editor:
In a recent article in The Mining Journal, the subject of shortening the Sawyer runway was covered.
It stated that it was going to save Sawyer (the county) $15,000 to $20,000 per year to reduce the runway by 3,000 feet approximately. The problem was that it would cost U.S. taxpayers about $870,000 for runway lighting, painting, etc.
That must be government math. I know it's from different parts of the government, but we all pay in the end. There must be a better way.
