MARQUETTE, Mich. - Eddie R. Raisanen, age 93, of 1902 Summit St., Marquette, MI., entered eternal life on April 12, 2013.
Ed was born in Wakefield, MI to Isaac and Matilda (Lusa) Raisanen on Sept. 19, 1919.
Following his graduation from Wakefield Senior High School, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp and the Sunday Lake Mine until joining the Michigan State Police in 1942. In 1943, Ed was inducted into the United States Army. Following his Honorable Discharge, he resumed his career with the State Police, retiring in 1967. During his service with the State Police, he worked at the East Lansing, Rockford, Jackson, L'Anse, Manistique, Battle Creek, and Marquette Posts. After retirement, he also worked as a security guard at Northern Michigan University and as an investigator for the State Department of Licensing and Regulation, retiring for good in 1982.

Growing up during the Great Depression, Ed became an avid hunter and fisherman, an outdoorsman who enjoyed putting game on the table, harvesting vegetables from the garden, cutting wood for the fire, and picking berries. In his spare time, he built a small family camp on Huron Bay, later tearing it down to build a garage and a bigger camp suitable for a family with grandchildren. Ed is a former President of the Marquette County Law Enforcement Association. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marquette.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 69 years, Irene (Pitkanen) Raisanen, two sons Ronald (Beverly) Raisanen of Marquette and Kenneth (Christine) Raisanen of Ontonagon, and a daughter Barbara (Allan) Rupiper of Eagle River, WI. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Interment of the ashes will be at the Park Cemetery in Marquette during a private ceremony at a later date.
