MARQUETTE, Mich. - Margaret Ann "Peg" Collins, age 79, a resident at Mill Creek Assisted Living, entered eternal life Wednesday morning, March 13, 2013, in the loving care of her family and the caregivers of Mill Creek and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Peg was born January 12, 1934 in Newberry, a daughter of Henry and DeVera (Quinn) Collins. She was a 1954 graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Hancock and her nursing career spanned many years and afforded many opportunities for learning and service. She did private duty for a gentleman with polio in the days of the iron lung, worked at St. Lukes Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, as a surgical nurse, and at Miller Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, performing outpatient clinic work equivalent to a nurse practitioner.
Peg also served in the Air Force Reserve for 16 years, during which she flew evac missions bringing back wounded troops. Peg loved to travel and her career afforded the opportunity to travel for both career and pleasure. She traveled to Paris, Rome, Japan, Germany, and a highlight was when she traveled to Ireland with her two sisters. In her leisure, Peg enjoyed skiing, both downhill and cross country.
Peg is survived by her sisters, Elaine McCarthy of Houghton and Beverly Petros of Marquette; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Harold Collins; and brothers-in-law, Robert McCarthy and Steve Petros.
Honoring Peg's request, private family services were held. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a favorite charity of your choice in Peg's name would be appreciated.
The Swanson - Lundquist Funeral Home is serving the family, where condolences may be expressed online at swansonlundquistfuneralhome.com.
