MARQUETTE - A 7-5 loss Feb. 17 to the host Traverse City JV AA squad left the Marquette Senior High School junior varsity hockey team with a 1-2 record in action Feb. 14-17.

Alex Warchol scored twice against T.C., with Hunter Larson, Patrick Burmeister and Tanner Carriere adding single goals for MSHS. Notching assists were Sam Leow, Brock Smith, Carriere, Brendan Elliott and Burmeister. Johnny Beckman was in net and took the loss (no saves available).

"I was real happy with the effort, just not the outcome," Marquette assistant coach Derek Fries said.

Feb. 16, the Redmen took a 2-0 triumph over T.C. behind goaltender Gabe Apple, who made 20 saves. Jacob Patterson and Larson scored goals for the Redmen, with Brenden Elliott, Smith and Tony Fedrizzi earning helpers.

"We outshot them 34-20 and forced them to take a lot of penalties, which really wears you down over the course of a game," Fries said.

On Feb. 14, MSHS dropped a 3-2 decision to the Houghton JV Gremlins at Marquette's Lakeview Arena. Scoring for the Redmen were Noah Heichel and Smith. Recording assists were Leow, Burmeister and Patterson.

Beckman turned away 22 shots in the loss.
