MARQUETTE - A Marquette man is scheduled for a preliminary examination Friday in Marquette County District Court after being arrested last week on a home invasion charge.

Douglas John Fitzpatrick, 26, was arraigned in district court and is charged with home invasion, second degree, a 15-year felony. His preliminary examination is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. Bond was set at 10 percent of $10,000.

The Marquette City Police Department said Fitzpatrick was arrested after allegedly breaking into a residence in the 500 block of West Washington Street. Police said their investigation revealed Fitzpatrick had been at the victim's house visiting on Jan. 14.

The victim needed to leave the residence and advised Fitzpatrick he needed to leave too, and he complied, according to police. The victim was gone from the residence a short time and when he returned, noticed the residence had been broken into and some property had been stolen, police said.

Police said the suspect had gained entry through a window, which was accessed by climbing on top of a breezeway. Police said their investigation showed Fitzpatrick had discussed the crime with several people before he allegedly committed it.

Police said with that information and other statements and evidence, a report was completed and sent to the Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, which authorized the charge. Fitzpatrick was arrested Feb. 18.
