MSHS JV hockey team takes 2nd in Green Bay

MARQUETTE - A 3-2 victory Feb. 10 gave the Marquette Senior High School hockey team a 2-1 tourney record and second place in Green Bay Wrobel Cup play.

Brock Smith, Hunter Larson and Tanner Carriere scored for the Redmen in a 3-2 win over Notre Dame. Alex Warchol collected two assists, while Brendan Elliott, Tony Fedrizzi and Smith picked up single helpers.

Gabe Apple turned aside 25 shots on net for Marquette (9-10-1).

"We got outshot in the first and second periods, but then took control in the third and only gave up four shots," MSHS coach Kevin Thomsen said.

Feb. 9, Marquette lost to eventual the tourney champions, the De Pere Voyagers, by a 3-2 count.

Larson and Carriere notched markers for the Redmen, with Elliott, Patrick Burmeister and Smith recording assists. Apple came up with 25 stops.

In their tourney opener Feb. 9, the Redmen whipped Bayport, 6-1, behind four goals by Warchol. Zach Carter and Smith added single tallies.

Picking up helpers were Smith (3), Carriere (2), Nick Tuma, Larson, Jacob Patterson and Warchol.

John Beckman made nine saves in goal for MSHS.
