Virginia M. ‘Gina’ Hampton

ISHPEMING, Mich. - Virginia M. "Gina" Hampton, age 91, longtime resident of 560 Elliott Ave. in Ishpeming passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming where she had resided since September of 2009.

Virginia was born December 10, 1921 in Ishpeming the daughter of Gust and Karie (Bennett) Sandstrom. She grew up in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High school, Class of 1940. Gina worked for several years at the H W Gossard Co. as a seamstress until her marriage to Norvin Hampton in 1951. She then became a homemaker raising her two sons in Ishpeming. Gina was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. Gina and Norvin had enjoyed there rides to the area casino's.

Survivors include two sons Ross Hampton of Ishpeming and Greg (Debbie) Hampton of Ishpeming, a sister Jean St. Amour of Marquette, a sister-in-law Jean Sandstrom of Ishpeming, a brother-in-law Chuck Lundin of Ishpeming, a granddaughter Natalie Hampton of Appleton, WI, step-grandchildren Nathan Denofre, Adam Rackley and Aryne Rackley along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Norvin Hampton in 2008, a sister Donna Lundin, a brother Robert Sandstrom, & a brother- in-law Al St. Amour.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Lindenberg to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
