MANISTIQUE - Lydia Asplund tossed in 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds and made a key defensive play to power Gwinn to a 45-42 Mid-Peninsula Conference girls basketball victory over host Manistique Tuesday night.

Ellie Olsen added 13 points for the Modeltowners (5-9 overall, 4-4 league).

"We were up by three with six seconds left and Asplund blocked a 3-point shot at the buzzer," Gwinn head coach Ben Olsen said.

"We (also) held onto the ball, that was the difference (in the game). We only had 14 turnovers."

Kyra Lauzon led the Emeralds (4-12, 2-8) with 15 points.

Munising 56,

Engadine 48

At Engadine, senior Megan McLaren dominated inside while scoring 20 points for Munising (8-8).

The Mustangs trailed 22-18 at halftime before erupting for 38 second-half points.

"Offensively, we played very well in the second half," MHS coach Matt Mattson said. "Jenna Hach hit some 3s to keep us in it in the first half."

Hach finished with 14 points, including a pair of 3s, as her team made seven triples altogether. Senior Sheena Sowa got all nine of her points on 3s.

For Engadine (1-11), Kassie Metcalf scored 20 points and Aspen Hood had 14 points and nine rebounds.

EHS won the JV game, 38-34.
