HARVEY, Mich. - Gregory W. McDonnell, 65, of Harvey, passed away unexpectedly. Greg was born November 6, 1947, in Houghton, Michigan. Greg was a polio survivor, but never let his handicap prevent him from pursuing his career and dedication to education. He graduated from Bishop Baraga High School and continued on to Michigan Technological University where he earned his Business Degree. He was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. After college he continued his education; obtaining certification in CAD design and ultimately his Masters Degree from DeVry University. His career took him from Michigan to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Florida, Ohio and eventually back to Marquette. He spent his retirement enjoying his home on the Chocolay River. He enjoyed drawing, photography, playing pool, cooking, coin collecting, bird watching, wildlife, music, movies especially James Bond and loved his best buddy - his dog, Freddie. He was an avid reader, knowledge seeker who was always ready to share his knowledge and help others in their own quest to learn. Greg had a book on just about everything you could imagine. Every year he baked dozens of cookies for family, friends, neighbors and all his delivery people.

Greg is survived by his sisters, Lea (Jim) DeMaagd of Wyoming, MI, Ellen Sue (Pudgy) McDonnell of Bloomington, MN and brother, Joseph John McDonnell of Irving, TX; two nephews, Nicholas and Zachary DeMaagd, both of Wyoming MI; many wonderful cousins, special close friends, Mary Evergreen, Katie McCarthy and Shaun Envison. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dan and Betty McDonnell.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Monday, February 4, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Fassbender Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm with Rev. Leon Jarvis presiding. Interment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring. Friends may send flowers or make donations to UPAWS (Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter) P.O. Box 968, Marquette, MI 49855.
