MARQUETTE - Frannie Belton of Marquette was recently named network coordinator of the Marquette Alger College Access Network.
Belton will act as a liaison between MACAN's executive leadership team and a larger network of community partners who collaborate on programs, services and resources that lower barriers for students to pursue post-secondary education or certification.
Belton previously worked at the University of Illinois implementing community and youth development programs designed to help stem the "brain drain" in rural Illinois.
"Communities play an integral role in the success of young people," Belton said . "I am impressed with the groundwork that the MACAN leadership team and network partners put in place thus far. Such a strong foundation provides ample opportunities for growth as the network develops and implements strategies to increase post-secondary education attainment in Marquette and Alger counties."
Schools participating in the network include Marquette Area Public Schools, Gwinn Area Community Schools, Munising Public Schools, Burt Township School, North Star Academy and Northern Michigan University.
Belton's office is in Room 105 of the Graveraet building at 611 N. Front St. in Marquette.
She can be contacted by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone at 225-4302, ext. 111.
