ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP, MI - Paul "Pudge" L. Nelson, age 71 of 240 Copper St. Ishpeming Twp, passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Marquette General Hospital emergency room.

Paul was born March 3rd, 1941 to C. Philip & Agnes (Nord) Nelson. He graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1959. He served his country in the US Army stationed in Hawaii from 1964 until 1966. He sailed on the ore boats on the Great Lakes after leaving the service. Pudge worked for the Plumbers and Pipefitter Local #111 since 1968, retiring as a Master Plumber and Pipefitter.

Pudge was a hard worker; he enjoyed building his camp, sauna and barns to keep all his collectables stored away. He enjoyed playing cards: blackjack at the casinos and cribbage in the Ishpeming Cribbage League. Pudge was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church.

Pudge is survived by his wife Stephanie Nelson, whom he married on June 20, 1983, a son Eric J. Lovern, a grandson Riley L. Lovern of Ishpeming, a brother Bernard (Mary) Nelson of Caro, MI, his mother in law Shirley Harvala, sisters in law and brothers in law: Jean Nelson of Cleveland, OH, Maureen (Tom) Allen, Richard (Patricia) Harvala, Glenn (Sharon) Harvala, Beverly (John) Korpi and Tommy Harvala all of Ishpeming along with many nieces and neph-ews. Pudge was preceded in death by his parents Philip and Agnes, a sister Ann Marie Hammar and a brother Carl Nelson; father in law Richard S. Harvala, brother in law Joseph R. Moyle and great nephews Joey Moyle and Max Baldini.

Funeral services will be held 4:00pm on Monday, January 28th at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Pudge's family will greet relatives and friends at the Bethel Lutheran Church on Monday from 2:00pm until the time of service at 4:00pm.

Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veteran of American Chapter 380 at the conclusion of the funeral service.

Pallbearers will be Pudge's nephews: Tom, Al, & Jim Hammar, Jeff Paull, Philip & Kirk Nelson.
