Northern Michigan’s Ludwig named CCHA Defenseman of the Week

MARQUETTE - CJ Ludwig helped lead the Northern Michigan University hockey team to a home sweep of the Ohio State Buckeyes over the weekend.

For his efforts, the junior has been salute by the CCHA as the league's Defenseman of the Week.

A native of Little Elm, Texas, Ludwig recorded an assist in Friday's 4-2 Northern win over the Buckeyes.

Saturday, he scored his fourth goal of the season in the Wildcats' 3-2 win. He finished plus-2 on the weekend with three blocked shots.

Ludwig has scored four of his five career goals this season, two of them on the power play.

He leads NMU with 36 blocked shots, has recorded eight assists, and is plus-4 on the season.

Northern travels to Alaska this weekend for a CCHA series with the Nanooks.

Meyer added to Wildcat

MARQUETTE - Former NMU player and Negaunee High School coach Mandie Meyer has been named an assistant coach with the Wildcats volleyball team, Northern coach Dominic Yoder announced Monday.

Meyer played for Yoder at NMU from 2006-09, was head volleyball coach at Negaunee in 2010 and served in that position at Kingsford in 2012.

She also was a volunteer assistant coach with Yoder during the 2011 season and has also served as a volunteer coach with the Articatz volleyball club of Marquette.

"Mandie brings a level of experience, maturity and passion to complement our staff," Yoder said. "She will focus on team serve reception, serving skills and systems and will also work with the left-side hitters."

As a player, Meyer was a two-time all-GLIAC selection and an honorable mention selection to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Great Lakes Region Team. She was a captain, two-time team MVP, appeared in 366 career matches and is fifth in NMU history with 1,211 kills and 11th in career digs with 1,036.

Meyer holds a bachelor's degree from NMU in physical education with an emphasis in coaching.
