MARQUETTE - The Marquette Electricians are nearing the .500 mark in the Northern Lakes Hockey League after two ties that followed a Saturday morning win against league-leading Shattuck St. Mary's at home over the weekend.
The Local 1070 Midget AAA hockey team improved to 6-8-4 in the NLHL with a 3-1 victory and 4-4 and 2-2 ties.
With a record of 3-1-2 over the last two weekends, the Electricians have improved to 7-25-9 overall with its annual charity game against Marquette Senior High School up next at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Lakeview Arena in Marquette. After that, the Electricians travel to the Madison, Wis., Gold Medal Classic from Feb. 8-10.
Marquette's Jordan Frazier forced the 4-4 Saturday night tie by scoring a goal with 13 seconds left that was assisted by Eric Chapman and Dusty Goupille. Chapman had a goal and an assist, while teammate Torrin Grange had a goal and two assists in the first period as their team took a 3-2 lead at the first intermission. The Electricians' other first-period goal was scored shorthanded by Matthew Stewart.
The Fairbault, Minn., visitors scored twice in the second period to take a 4-3 lead and set up Frazier's last-second heroics.
Bryce Leaf made 34 saves in goal to make up for Shattuck's 38-20 shots advantage.
In Sunday morning's 2-2 tie, Marquette's Jacob Peterson and Jayson Dahlquist scored second-period goals to the tie the score each time. Chapman had an assist on each goal.
The Electricians' Adam Ranck also made 34 saves as St. Mary's held a 36-17 shots advantage.
