GWINN - Strong defense and balanced scoring led the Gwinn High School boys basketball team to a 75-47 non-conference win over visiting Houghton Saturday.
The Model Towners (8-3) limited the Gremlins (6-2) to just 33 shots from the field.
"It was defense the whole way," GHS head coach Darren Sinnaeve said. "And our offense came off our defense. Everyone was involved in transition."
Justin Nyquist paced Gwinn with 19 points. Derek Reetz and Owen DeVooght added 11 each, while Luke Sinnaeve contributed 10.
Trent Keteri and Zack Ohtonen tossed in 15 points apiece for Houghton.
Houghton won the jayvee game, 38-35.
At Republic Saturday, the host Hawks were outscored 44-15 over the middle two quarters in losing a 67-28 Skyline Conference boys basketball decision to visiting Bar river-Harris.
"We had 37 turnovers, which is not good," R-M head coach Bill Radcliffe said.
"They were mostly unforced on our part."
Marcus Antilla scored 10 points for R-M (2-6 overall, 0-6 league). Teammate Zach Kangas hauled down 10 rebounds.
For the Broncos (5-5. 4-3), Jordan Sodergren poured in 18 points. John Norman tossed in 13 and Kyle Kleiman 12.
