Westwood wrestlers sweep IM, Kingsford

ISHPEMING - Westwood picked up a pair of victories against Dickinson County teams at a quadrangular high school wrestling meet held Thursday.

The Patriots knocked off Iron Mountain 54-30 and Kingsford 47-27. In other matches held at the school, the Mountaineers downed Gwinn 30-12 while the Flivvers raced past the Modeltowners 48-18.

Just four Westwood athletes wrestled two matches, with Cooper Guidebeck at 145 pounds winning once, pinning Kingsford's Austin Meise at 1:23, and teammate Vincente Carlson taking a victory at 130 by pinning IM's Izzy Barazza at 3:52.

In addition, the Pats' Darren Wing pinned Kingsford's Deon Beurjey at 1:06 at 152, Josh Argall pinned the Flivvers' Drake Griggs at 3:57 at 160, Francois Montbrun decisioned Kingsford's Zach Povolo 6-4 at 171, Cole Schultz held off the Flivvers' Harley Winters 9-5 at 215, and Zack Platteborze beat Kingsford's Zach Jones by disqualification at 103.

"I'm really happy with the way the whole team wrestled," WHS coach Dan Carlson said.
