CHAMPION, Mich. - Richard "Dick" Leroy Emanuelson, age 68, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away peacefully following a short illness on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at home. He was in the loving care of his companion Barb and the Lake Superior Hospice.
Richard was born December 6, 1944 in Ishpeming to the late George F. and Sylvia (Siltanen) Emanuelson. Richard had worked at Virg's Shoe Store until graduating from the Ishpeming High School, class of 1963. Dick served in the United States Air Force from 1965-1968 doing 3 tours in Vietnam. Dick returned to Ishpeming following his service time and was first employed by Bessander Roofing. Later he settled in with the Hercules Powder Co. which became Pepin- Ireco, retiring in 2011 after 38 years with the company.
Dick was an ultimate handy-man, enjoying metal work and cement work. He and Barb made a good team, making stain glass windows along with their gardens and landscaping. Dick was meticulous, tolerant and had a strong work ethic. His hobbies included tinkering with numerous projects, astronomy, working in the gardens, working with equipment and power tools, road riding, observing nature, math problems, eating healthy home cooking, playing and listing to music & sauna's. Dick could identify any airplane he would see, knowing all makes and models. He could also "Finn-rig" anything that needed fixing.

Dick is survived by his soul mate of over 30 years Barb Bolle of Champion, a sister Karen Emanuelson of Ishpeming and brother Robert (Carrie) Emanuelson of Ely Twp., along with the rest of the Emanuelson family from Ishpeming & National Mine. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jaryd and George "Doods" Emanuelson and a sister Norma Spencer.
Dick's family will greet relatives and friends from 4 6pm on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home where family and friends will share memories at 6:00pm followed by Military Honors accorded by the Vietnam Veteran of American Chapter 380.
