MANISTIQUE - It was bit of a struggle at times Monday night, but the Manistique girls found a way to post a 43-35 Mid-Peninsula Conference basketball victory over the Westwood Patriots.
The Emeralds led 15-4 after the first quarter, but only 20-17 at halftime of the Mid-Peninsula Conference match-up.
"I thought we got off to a good start, then we went cold from the floor in the second quarter," Emeralds' coach Kelley Spettel said. "It got a little scary for a while, although I thought we played a solid second half."
Kyra Lauzon hit 13 points for the Emeralds, who improved to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the M-PC. They had 20 turnovers.
"We were lucky enough to capitalize on (Westwood's) mistakes and were patient on offense toward the end of the game," Spettel said.
"We were able to run some time off the clock."
Both teams were cold from the free throw line, where the Emeralds hit 10-of-25 shots and Westwood (1-5 overall, 0-2 league) finished 9-of-19.
The Patriots won the JV game, 52-25.
