Vande Zande book receives award

January 6, 2013

MARQUETTE - Marquette native Jeff Vande Zande's novel, "American Poet," has won a 2013 Michigan Notable Book Award from the Library of Michigan.

A graduate of Northern Michigan University, Vande Zande lives in Midland and teaches at Delta College. "American Poet" is set in Saginaw and is a coming-of-age story. In it, poet Denver Hoptner moves back to Saginaw to find work, and instead finds himself trying to save the Theodore Roethke Home Museum.

The Notable Books committee annually selects 20 books for the award out of 200 to 300 nominees. A committee of librarians, reviewers, booksellers and authors select the books.
