RAPID RIVER - The Superior Central Cougars continued their amazing run Friday night, as they coasted past the Rapid River Rockets, 75-19, in their fifth mercygirls basketball victory of the season.

"I'm real happy with what we're doing right now," Cougars coach Greg Trowbridg said. "We're moving the ball, and our defense has been pretty good all year.

"We're starting to get a little better flow and really looking like a team."

Superior Central came out with guns blazing. Teslyn Tyner stole the ball and ran it in for a fast break layup to begin the Cougars' scoring onslaught.

That was followed by back-to-back 3-pointers by Brooke Pasanen and Tyner. The Cougars' fast break offense ripped the Rockets, as SC ran off to a 22-2 lead after the first quarter and a 43-2 halftime advantage.

As the second half began, so did a running clock.

Superior Central improved to 8-0 (6-0 CUP), but head coach Greg Trowbridge said his team's next games against Ishpeming and Gwinn will be a good test for his team.

"Next week, I think we will be challenged a bit," he said.

Tyner finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Vanessa Freberg paced the Cougars with 17 points.

Rapid River fell to 0-6 and 0-5

Superior Central's jayvees won their game, 22-20.

North Central 47, Munising 27

Falling prey to a late 26-4 North Central run, the Munising High School girls basketball team lost to the visiting Jets Friday night, 47-27, in a Central U.P. League contest.

"We were leading 23-21 in the third quarter, then they made some shots and we had to get out of our zone defense," Mustangs' head coach Matt Mattson said.

"Once we did that, we got into trouble. We had some unforced turnovers and went cold (shooting-wise."

Sheena Sowa scored 10 points and hauled down 14 rebounds for Munising (4-4 overall, 2-3 CUP).

Baylee Wells tossed in 14 points, Kennedy Faccio added 11 and Dana Rochon chipped in 10 for the Jets (7-1, 5-0).
