MARQUETTE, Mich. - John James Mahoney III, 53, of Marquette, entered eternal life Sunday evening, December 23, 2012, as the result of a car-pedestrian accident.
John was a 40-year resident of Marquette. He was born on July 15, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois and had attended Marquette Senior High School where he played football and hockey.
He was previously employed at the Cabaret, Peninsula Sanitation Transfer Station and the Northwoods Supper Club.
John was an avid follower of professional and college sports. He loved to fish and shot a good game of pool. He was very sociable in many circles around town and was most proud of his Irish heritage.
John is survived by his parents, John "Jack" and Alice Mahoney of Peshtigo, WI; sisters, Maggie "Margaret" Mahoney and her husband, Joe VanLinden of Marquette and Kate (Joe) LaPierree of Marinette, WI; brothers, Brian (Robyn) Mahoney of Marquette and Dan Mahoney of Carrollton, KY; an uncle, James H. Mahoney of Palos Park, IL and aunt, Abigail Marcum of Tennessee; also surviving are nieces and nephews, Marcus, Tracy, Alise, Cameron, Brenna, and Kelly as well as several great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Saturday, December 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
