Kivela sworn in to state House seat

December 20, 2012
The Mining Journal

John Kivela, D-Marquette, the representative-elect for the 109th District in the Michigan House, was sworn in Wednesday by Marquette County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Mazzuchi. The state Legislature elected in November will begin work Jan. 1, but the ceremonial swearing in doesn't take place downstate until the second week of the new year. In order to receive pay and benefits, elected officials conduct swearing-in ceremonies locally before taking their posts. Kivela's took place at the Landmark Inn.
