Group to read 'Medea'

MARQUETTE - Readers Theater will hold a reading of "Medea" at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Peter White Public Library Shiras Room.

Readers Theater is a group of adults interested in drama, willing and able to read a scripted role. They meet the third Thursday of each month to read plays for enjoyment. New readers are welcome.

Free day at kids museum

MARQUETTE - Free Day, an annual event provided by the Upper Peninsula Children's Museum and Charter Communications, will be held from noon to 5 p.m. today at the Upper Peninsula Children's Museum in Marquette.

During the event, participants can purchase or renew an annual membership for the museum; 2013 family and grandparent memberships will be 10 percent off.

Experience Works talk in Gwinn

GWINN - A representative of Experience Works will be at the Forsyth Township Community Center from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday to explain the Experience Works program for low-income people ages 55 or older.

Bookfair, adoption event slated

HARVEY - A Bookfair/Adoption Fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Silver Creek Church in Harvey.

Money raised at the event will go toward a local family adopting a sibling group of five children from Colombia.

The event will include a meet-and-greet, sleigh rides, a book and craft sale, and a pasty sale.

Sale to aid transplant patient

NEGAUNEE - The women from the Old Fashioned Baptist Church in Ishpeming will sponsor a bake sale fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The bake sale will be conducted at the Negaunee Eagles Club on Iron Street in Negaunee. Baked goods for sale will include pies and breads.

Sale proceeds will benefit congregation member Michelle Mulder of Ishpeming, who is scheduled to have a kidney transplant from her sister, Carrie Myotte, on Wednesday.

Creche collection viewings set

HARVEY - Fred and Carol Margrif will host three opportunities to see a portion of their creche collection at 128 Timberlane in Harvey. The holiday exhibit depicts the story of Christ's birth in many different art media and represents more than 60 countries and all continents.

The collection will be on display from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and Dec. 23. There also will be an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 6.

Christmas Party in Humboldt

HUMBOLDT - Humboldt Township will hold a Christmas Party from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Humboldt Township Hall. The event will include sleigh rides, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, cookies, hot chocolate and coffee.

Kids party at Gwinn VFW

GWINN - The Gwinn VFW Post 5670 and auxiliaries will host its annual Kids' Christmas Party from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the VFW club. Santa will arrive at 2 p.m. The event will include hot dogs, games and prizes.

'Mermaid Jr.' tickets on sale

MARQUETTE - Tickets are on sale for Disney's "The Little Mermaid Jr." which will play at 7 p.m. Jan. 25, and Jan. 26 at Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette. There also will be a 1 p.m. performance on Jan. 26.

Seating is reserved and no refunds or exchanges will be accepted. Advance tickets cost $13 per adult or senior and $8 per child or student; add $3 at the door. Tickets may be purchases at all NMU EZ Ticket Outlets, online at www.nmu.edu/tickets or by calling (906) 227-1032.

Snowmobile safety class offered

ISHPEMING - A free snowmobile safety class will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 27 at Westwood High School in Ishpeming. Ages 12 and older are eligible to attend. Participants should bring a pencil, a sack lunch and outdoor clothing.
