NEGAUNEE, Mich. - Viola N. Langson, 99, formerly of 111 Bluff St., Ishpeming, and longtime Negaunee resident, died at 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Eastwood Nursing Center where she had resided since 2008.
Viola was born September 23, 1913 in Ishpeming to Jacob and Wilhelmina (Lyyski) Olgren, attended Ishpeming High School, and was a lifelong area resident, living in Ishpeming, Champion and Negaunee. As a young girl, she was employed at the Negaunee Glove Factory and later worked for many years as a baker and cook at the Main Drift Restaurant.
Mrs. Langson was a member of the Salvation Army, Ishpeming. She was an active member of the Negaunee Eagle's Auxiliary and the REACT program, and also was a 35 year member of the Tanja Stanaway Finnish Language Class. Viola enjoyed baking, cooking, and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She helped to raise 3 children other than her own.

Surviving are her son, William Langson of Negaunee Township; 6 daughters: Carol Joki of Ishpeming, Viola Liubakka of Marquette, Sally (Earl) McNally of Brampton, Corrine Hillis, Arlene (Ben) Thexton and Lois Hill, all of Ishpeming; 33 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, and 46 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William Langson in 1976; 2 daughters: Eunice Hebert and Florence Houseman; 1 son, Fred Langson; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12 at the Salvation Army Chapel in Ishpeming with Lieutenant Stephen Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Mrs. Langson's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Koskey Funeral Home, with the Negaunee Eagle's Auxiliary to hold a service at 6:00 p.m.
