MARQUETTE - The Marquette Senior High School junior varsity hockey team swept visiting Kingsford over the weekend, winning 7-3 on Friday and 5-1 on Saturday.

Scoring goals for the Redmen on Friday were Brock Smith (3), Cole Rieboldt (2), Alex Warchol and Tony Fedrizzi. Assists were credited to Lucas Klingler, Warchol (3), Reiboldt (2), Smith and Zach Carter. Minding the net was Gabe Apple, but saves were unavailable.

Scoring goals on Saturday for the Redmen were Tony Fedrizzi, Cole Reiboldt (2), Alex Warchol and Hunter Larson. Collecting assists were Zach Carter, Jacob Patterson, Brock Smith (2), Warchol, Reiboldt and Noah Heichel. Getting the win while turning away 11 shots was Johnny Beckman.

"I was happy with a lot of things I saw this weekend," said head coach Keven Thomsen. "Likewise, I saw a lot of things we need to work on in practice. We are a very young team with a lot of these kids not having a whole lot of experience at this level of hockey, which means we have some habits that we need to change. We were a little rusty, but all in all, I thought we played pretty good hockey for our first two games of the season."
