CANTON, Ohio - Despite getting 22 points from junior forward Matthew Craggs on Saturday, Northern Michigan University lost its second GLIAC men's basketball game of the weekend, 75-66, at Malone University.
Trailing 44-26 at halftime, NMU (1-4 overall, 0-2 GLIAC) scored the first eight points of the second half to cut its deficit to 10, but couldn't get much closer to Malone (3-2, 1-1).
Craggs made two 3-pointers and was 8 of 9 on free throws, while teammate TJ Cameron scored 12 points, including a pair of 3s. NMU shot 19 of 52 from the field (37 percent) and 21 of 31 on free throws (68 percent).
Craggs and sophomore forward Kendall Jackson shared Wildcat rebounding honors with eight apiece.
The Pioneers' Isiah Elliott scored 19 points, Cory Veldhuizen 15 and Daniel Wise 11. Malone made 29 of 65 field goals (45 percent) and 14 of 19 free throws (74 percent).
NMU opens its GLIAC home campaign this week against Hillsdale at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Findlay at 1 p.m. Saturday.
