MARQUETTE - Marquette Senior High School won all but one event to score a decisive sweep of Manistique at a high school swimming meet held at the Marquette pool on Wednesday.
The Redettes girls won 150-22 while the Redmen boys took a 139-17 decision in the opening meet of the season for the schools.
"It was fun to see what the Marquette teams had," MSHS coach Nathan McFarren said.
Manistique's lone victory of the day came in the boys meet when Adam Lavance took the 100-yard freestyle by more than four seconds in 1:07.54. The Emeralds also scored two runner-up finishes for the boys by Jared Johnson-Helman.
For the Marquette boys, Sam Williams and Colin McCommons were both four-time winners as each swam on the Redmen's victorious 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.
Williams added wins in the 200 individual medley and 500 free while McCommons came out on top in the 50 free and 100 butterfly.
Teammate Luke Sides had wins in the same relays as his teammates while also taking the 200 free.
Two-time winners included for MSHS included Michael Edwards, Austin Smith and Russ Labeau.
For the girls, Marquette had a trio of triple winners in Janelle Carroll, Paige Gilbert and Gwen Hoenke.
Carroll took the 200 free, 100 fly and swam on the Redettes' winning 200 free relay team; Gilbert took the 50 free and swam on the 200 medley and 400 free relay winners; while Hoenke was first in the 100 free and swam with the 200 free and 400 free victors.
Double winners for Marquette included Katy Beckstrom, Logan Vear, Katy Beckstrom and Chelsea Morin.
Next up for Marquette is the Westwood Relays at 11 a.m. Saturday.
