Father Marquette Girl Scouts create Bottle Cap Murals as a fundraiser

November 25, 2012
The Mining Journal

MARQUETTE - Father Marquette Catholic School Girl Scout Troop No. 5033 created Bottle Cap Murals as a recycling art project, and to raise funds for the school. They were recently auctioned off at the annual Father Marquette Harvest for Education Auction. The girls started collecting bottle caps in the late spring and a total of 726 bottle caps were used for the murals and saved from the landfills. The girls each chose an image they wanted in the mural, painted it, and assisted in the lay-out of the bottle caps. Then leader Heather Modell attached each bottle cap, one at a time, to the murals by drilling screws to permanently secure them. The girls enjoyed this project, and will be doing more in the future.
