MARQUETTE - Members of the Marquette American Legion Bantam AA hockey team found it tough playing the Green Bay Gamblers Bantam AAA Major squad the weekend of Nov. 16-17.
Coach Brian Nebel's icers lost all three games, 5-0, 4-1 and 4-2.
Jack Eyler made 34 saves in the Legion net in the shutout game, in which Marquette gave up two goals in the first three minutes of play.
In the 4-1 defeat, Spencer DenBeste scored Legion's only goal, assisted by Tristan Ashbrook. Legion netminder Travis Cameron came up with 44 stops in goal; Brandon Chapman-Jacobs 17 in the Green Bay net.
In the Sunday game, Joey Phillips and Alister Henderson scored for Marquette, which trailed 3-2 after two periods of play.
DenBeste, Kyle Lane and Justin Hendrickson picked up assists for Legion (12-10-4 overall).
Eyler made 26 stops; Chapman-Jacobs 21 for Green?Bay.
"We knew when we put the schedule together this (weekend) would be a tough stretch for us," Nebel said, "playing an AAA Major team with mostly second-year Bantams."
A pair of wins over visiting Mackinaw City moved the Marquette City Insurance Pee Wee AA Sentinels to 8-0-0 in the North American Hockey League.
The Sentinels, now 17-6-0 overall this season, claimed 4-2 and 7-3 victories over Mackinaw City on Nov. 18.
In the first game, Daunte Fortner scored three goals and Tanner Phillips one.
Collecting assists were Reece Fortner (2), Nate Bordson, Ted Hoenke and Alec Olivier.
Dylan Sibilsky made 19 saves in net for City Insurance.
In the nightcap, Daunte Fortner notched three more goals and an assist.
Phillips and Bordson each chipped in two markers and a helper. Sentinels teammates Carter Peterson, Reece Fortner and Ethan Jones picked up assists.
Marquette netminder Tyler Bergdahl came up with 15 stops.
TriMedia goes 3-1-0
The TriMedia Squirt AA hockey team of Marquette won three games and tied another in NIHL play the weekend of Nov. 10-11.
On Saturday, the Marquette squad took to the road for a pair of games with the Sault Ste. Marie Lakers. TriMedia tied, 5-5, and won, 4-1.
In the deadlock, in which the Sentinels came back from a two-goal deficit, Brayden Stannard scored three goals to lead the way. Cooper Anderson and Jacob Peterson notched single tallies.
Picking up assists were Ansel Frost, Evan Kroll, Andrew Fedrizzi and Peterson.
Preston Maki turned aside 34 shots in goal for the winners.
In the second game, Stannard recorded two goals. Fedrizzi added one and so did Anderson, who also picked up two assists.
Joseph Luke, Lucas Guertin and Frost added helpers, while Maki made 17 saves.
At Mackinaw City Sunday, TriMedia buried the Mackinac City Northern Avalanche twice, both by 17-1 scores, to move to 9-1-2 in the league.
Carson Hayes came up with a combined 15 saves in net for Marquette.
In total Sunday, Stannard tallied seven goals and three assists; Peterson seven markers and one helper; Anderson six markers and three assists; Fedrizzi with three tallies and three helpers; and Luke with two goals and two assists
Also, Ethan Sellers came up with two goals and two assists, as did Jacob Hendrickson; Guertin added two tallies and a helper, as did Hogan Nemetz; Evan Kroll picked up a goal and two assists; Frost collected four assists; and Ryan McCoy earned a helper.
Hockey Central wins
Jon Jason scored twice as Marquette Hockey Central blanked Superiorland Kiwanis, 2-0.
Gaetano Cammarata picked up two assists and Braedyn Locke one.
Soren Higgins made 16 saves in net for Hockey Central; Kyle Michelson came up with 21 stops for Superiorland Kiwanis.
