DETROIT - Outscored 44-23 in the first half, the Northern Michigan University men's basketball team dropped an 88-53 exhibition decision to host Detroit Mercy Friday night.
Senior forward TJ Cameron led the Wildcats of coach Doug Lewis with 20 points. Freshman guard Stephen Pelkofer added nine.
Senior forward Doug Anderson (25) and junior guard Ray McCallum (22) combined for 47 points to lead four Mercy players in double figures.
Cameron and teammate Scooter Johnson, a junior forward, snared eight rebounds apiece for Northern. Anderson hauled in nine for Detroit.
NMU made just 18 of 54 shots from the field (33.3 percent) and 9 of 16 from the free throw line. Mercy was 34 of 70 (48.5 percent) and 9 of 14 (64.2 percent), respectively.
The Wildcats will open their season at 1 p.m. Nov. 17 against Finlandia at the Berry Events Center.
