MARQUETTE - Democrat and former Marquette County Prosecutor Gary Walker defeated Republican challenger Pete Mackin on Tuesday to become the next supervisor of Chocolay Township.
Walker, who won by a margin of 1,674 votes to 1,512, will replace outgoing supervisor Greg Seppanen. Seppanen was elected Tuesday to the Marquette County Board.
Walker served for 38 years as Marquette County Prosecutor until his retirement last year.
He told The Mining Journal prior to the election that he would like to focus on increased intergovernmental cooperation in the region and to maintain momentum in a township that was "well run" and "well managed."
Walker will take over as supervisor on Nov. 20, one day after the next meeting of the Chocolay Township Board.
