To the Journal editor:
I'm asking voters to support John Kivela for our next Michigan state representative of the 109th district. I've worked with John for the last six years on the city commission and there is no one better at bringing people to the table and getting things done than John.
In the last six years, I've seen a lot of positive changes in the city of Marquette. When John Kivela was elected to the city commission in November 2006, the city of Marquette and Marquette Township did not have a great relationship. With John's ability, he was able to meet with the township board and management to work out the differences and today we have a great working relationship between our two communities and have began partnering on many projects together.
John has been the mayor of the city of Marquette the past four years and has worked hard through the state and federal financial crisis. John has worked tirelessly during his six year term to improve the city's financial budget and to raise our bond rating to AA+ from the world renowned Standard & Poors bond rating company. John has been able to keep a balanced budget during his two years as city commissioner and as the city's mayor for the last four years, has lowered city taxes, plus paid down on the city's debt produced from years past.
I've worked with a lot of people all of my life and do not know anyone like John Kivela, who has worked harder with civic groups, city residents and surrounding communities to get the job done productively, as John Kivela has.
John has accomplished many positive working relationships throughout Marquette County, the Upper Peninsula and the city of Marquette during his term in office as commissioner and mayor. John helped move the city of Marquette into the 21st century. Again, I ask voters throughout the 109th district that on Tuesday, please vote for John Kivela as our next state representative of the 109th district of Michigan.
