Get out and vote

November 1, 2012
The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

As you've heard already, this November election is one that's going to decide which direction this country is heading. With all the negative attack ads out there from both parties it can be a little frustrating and confusing.

Don't be pressured into voting a certain way, because, you are either "Republican" or "Democrat." Leave the party out of it and vote your conscience.

The main issues between these two candidates (Obama vs. Romney) are many: Repeal Obamacare? Abortion on demand? Same sex "marriage?" Religious freedom? Cut Medicare $716 billion? Mandated contraceptive coverage by religious charities? 20 percent across-the-board income tax cut? Balanced budget amendment? Cap and trade carbon tax? Taxpayer-funded abortion? Defense of marriage act? Foreign policy? Military budget cuts? And many other important issues.

I feel these issues and politicians today are dividing America and putting us against each other. Don't fall into this web that will entrap us for many years to come. Remember, united we stand, divided we fall.

When voting for a candidate regarding these issues, vote your own "moral value system." Don't vote for a certain individual and sacrifice your own moral beliefs that you grew up with.

Before I cast my vote, I'll ask myself what are God's laws? What kind of stand would He want me to take on these issues? Then I vote my conscience.

Some of these issues are not just Catholic or Christian issues. They are about our own personal values and how we reflect and live up to them in our everyday life.

Don't let government decide what your moral value system is going to be. Please exercise your civic duty and cast your vote this Nov. 6.

Many of our United States service men and women sacrificed all they had to preserve this foundamental freedom that many of us take for granted. Don't let their sacrifices or deaths be in vane.

Get out there and vote.
