City is hockey town

October 31, 2012
The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

On behalf of the Hockey on Third Parade Committee and the Marquette Downtown Development Authority, we would like to send a huge thank you to all who helped with and those who participated in the Third Annual Hockey on Third Parade Celebration.

In conjunction with the fourth Annual Old Timer's Hockey Tournament, the DDA celebrated the importance of hockey to our community with a parade and reception at the Marquette Regional History Museum.

Range Bank was this year's sponsor for the prize awards, and Perani's Hockey World donated team bags. Cash Awards were presented to the top three entrants, based on participation, creativity, and organization. A hockey movie, "The Mighty Ducks," was shown at the commons. Popcorn was donated by River Valley Bank.

The grand marshal was Ron Johnson (Marquette Sentinels and Iron Rangers) and the state champion Country Inn & Suites U19 Girls were this year's Marshalettes. Wooden cutout hockey skates were decorated by local businesses and hockey fans from the community and prominently displayed on North Third Street.

As we look forward to a fun filled hockey season, we hope to see you all next year.
