MARQUETTE - Negaunee, Ishpeming and Marquette all finished in the top five of the final Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association prep football poll of the season.
Negaunee (8-1) finished with 13 points in Big Five voting by select members of the UPSSA to place third behind unanimous Kingsford (8-1, 25 points) and runner-up Menominee (8-1, 20).
Coach Paul Jacobson's Miners will host Iron Mountain (5-4) at 7 p.m. Friday in MHSAA Division 6 playoff action.
Coach Jeff Olson's Ishpeming Hematites (8-1) and the Marquette Senior High School Redmen (5-3) tied for fourth in the balloting with eight points each.
Ishpeming, which finished No. 4 in the Division 7 of the final Michigan Associated Press poll, will entertain Lincoln Alcona at 7 p.m. Friday in District 7 playoff competition, while the Redmen of coach Dave L'Huillier travel to downstate Midland for a Division 2 playoff clash at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Chemics.
In the Little Five, L'Anse (7-2) finished with two points in the voting for an honorable mention berth. The Purple Hornets of head coach Mark Leaf will host Forest Park (7-2) at 7 p.m. Friday in playoff competition.
