MARQUETTE - The Marquette Magic 17-Under girls basketball team won two of three games at the Morey Courts Tournament in downstate Mount Pleasant on Saturday to improve its record to 4-2.
The Magic lost its first game to the hometown Central Shooters, 41-36, despite holding a seven-point halftime lead and shooting 50 percent from the field.
Michelle LaFave of Escanaba recorded her first double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Lydia Kurin of Marquette added eight points and Brooke Houle of Marquette had six.
LaFave had another double-double with the same 13 points and 10 rebounds in the Magic's 51-35 victory over Mid-Michigan Magic of Saginaw.
Kurin added 12 points and five rebounds, while Ashlyn Kero of Houghton scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
In its final game, the Marquette-based team zipped past the Manistique Lady Gems, 66-27, with Elizabeth Kurin of Marquette getting her first double-doublle with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
LaFave joined her in the double-double department with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Lydia Kurin had 10 points.
The Magic were scheduled to return to Mount Pleasant for their final tournament of the fall season this past weekend.
