To the Journal editor:
I'm writing to encourage everyone to attend the Marquette Candidates' Forum tonight, in the Community Room at the Peter White Public Library, from 7-8:30 p.m.
During this election year, when candidates are spending most of their time at fundraisers instead of interacting with the people they're supposed to be representing, this forum presents an opportunity to tell the politicians what you think, ask them tough questions, and put them on the spot to give you some answers.
It is my understanding that all city and county officials are invited to the forum organized by County Commissioner Mike Quayle (who will also be a participant running for re-election for District 3). Hopefully, we'll hear some good creative solutions to the many economic, health, and environmental issues that we face in our county and city.
Please support this time-honored candidate-to-voter interaction and keep it alive by reminding candidates that it is the people they should answer to, not moneyed and special interests. It's much easier to effect change locally than it is to do it on a national or even a state level. Come on and make yourself heard. Make a difference.
And if you go for no other reason, the forum is advertising free food and music.
