EBEN - Rallying from a one-game deficit, the Ishpeming High School girls' volleyball team beat host Superior Central Friday night, 3-1 (15-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-22) in non-conference play.

Alesha O'Brien paced the Hematites, now 6-8 in dual meets this season, with three kills, nine aces and a block. Teammate Jessica Spencer added eight kills, an ace and four blocks.

"We started sluggishly," IHS head coach Amy Rautiola said. "We didn't play with the same intensity as earlier in the week.

"The girls were just exhausted after a doubleheader on Tuesday and a match Thursday.

"But O'Brien really stepped up with her serving," she added. "We also struggled with our passing, but the girls made up for that with aggressiveness at the net."

Natalee Dobson recorded 14 assists and three aces, while Caitlin Korvala chipped in 22 digs and three aces for IHS.

For Superior Central, Brooke Pasanen turned in eight kills, an ace, an assist and 12 digs; Lindsey Richmond posted 28 assists, 11 digs, four kills and three aces; and Kelsey Coleman recorded seven kills, five aces, 10 digs and two blocks.

"We played with great intensity the first game and I think we took (Ishpeming) by surprise," S.C. head coach Kris Bray said. "(But) Ishpeming adjusted and played much tougher the next three games."

The Ishpeming JV team won 25-22, 25-14.
